Male or Female
I
am amazed at the number of people who seem to prefer females to males.
Even
those who never intend to breed them say they want a female.
When asked why, they never seem to have a solid reason. The most common reason given is “We have always had females” or “I just like females”
And there is the I don't want them hiking their leg in the house issue.
My male has hiked his leg maybe 5 times in the house at the most.
Like
everything else when they know it's not acceptable, they quit.
I
have 3 females and two male because It's just the way it worked out.
I
love my girls. They are friendly,
loving, smart and just wonderful animals.
But
if I could only keep one dog it would be my male, Bailey.
Bailey
is all of the above but he has intellect.
He
has the ability to reason.
He has the ability to see a situation and make reasonable, almost human, decisions.
On two
occasions he has
rescued his pups when humans stood around wondering what to do.
He
acted as mid-wife to
He
has sons that show the same levels of intelligence, so it’s not just that he is
a super dog, which he is. I believe it’s
a male beagle trait. At least in this line of Beagle.
I
was told in the beginning that males were smarter but harder to work with than
females
There
is truth to this. Most of the Field Champions are male.
Bailey
has always made me feel that he does things, such as training, just to make me
happy. Case in point, He would not always accept a treat for learning a
trick.
Instead he would want affection, a scratch behind the ears and a
"Good Boy".
Bailey
has always been the top dog in his classes, Obedience or Agility.
The down side is that he is an escape artist.
We have had to work at making the
backyard a safe place to leave him.
As
I have stated we love our females, they are good, loving, smart, devoted
animals.
But personally I prefer males.
